About Ecuador and Galapagos Islands

Come step into the lost world of Dr. Seuss as you paddle around the rocky coast of Isabela Bay, hike over ancient lava flows in the highlands of the Sierra Negra volcano and plunge into the Pacific Ocean at Kicker Rock to witness the underwater rush hour of marine life. There's probably nowhere else on the planet you can find such a variety and concentration of unique island creatures, like blue-footed boobies dancing on the rocks, vividly coloured Sally Lightfoot crabs scurrying underfoot, prehistoric-looking marine iguanas slipping in for a swim or giant tortoises slowing making their way through the lush forest.

We've found the best way to experience the incredibly abundant wildlife – in the ocean, on land and in the skies – is by spending plenty of time on the water (kayaking, snorkelling or diving) and by exploring the archipelago's many islands on foot and by bike. What our visitors don't expect is how much they'll enjoy staying ashore each night to get to know the other residents of Darwin's famous outpost, especially our guides, who are its passionate guardians and storytellers.

Back on the mainland, Ecuador is a diverse and compact, yet virtually undiscovered adventure playground. Until the rest of the world catches on to South America's best kept secret, you can cycle down one of the world's highest volcanoes, hike deep into the lush Amazon jungle to swim under waterfalls, explore its rivers by canoe in search of wildlife and hike up into Andean alpine tundra – all in relative solitude.

    Challenging and Fun!

My trip to Argentina and Chile was more than I imagined it would be. I was in awe of the natural beauty of the areas we hiked in. However, the most important thing I take home with me is the personal relationships I formed with my group, especially my leader, and now friend, Mayra Callo. She was amazing. I am a "beginner hiker" so her patience and close attention on the harder treks was appreciated! She knew so much about the area and it was a pleasure learning about South America from her. In addition, her personality made all of us feel like family, with Mayra being the Mother :) She took great care of all of us. We all had so much fun together...it was sad to leave. Anyone who has any reservations about booking a trip should just do it! They won't be disappointed!!

    Amazing Adventure

what an amazing adventure we had! we enjoyed every bit of our Jaguar trip and would recommend Active Adventures to anyone who asks! The trip was very well organized and the guides were all informative and amazing. Our main guide, Erick Farfan was the best! he always made sure everything ran smoothly and had to deal with many different personalities on this trip but made it all work. The Inka trail was a tough trail for me due to the altitude but what an amazing feeling once you complete it and arrive at the sun gate! We thoroughly enjoyed the jungle as well as the visit to lake titicaca and our local family that we stayed with. look forward to our next amazing adventure with you! Hoping to do Patagonia soon!

From the outset you will experience new adventures like cycling down Mt Cotopaxi from 4,500m, walking around beautiful countryside and heading upriver to an EcoLodge. This beautiful, multi-day activities are thoroughly enjoyable, and your guide Mauro Chavez is exceptional, highly professional, capable and engaging, definately one of the best guides I've had the pleasure to meet.
