New Zealand Weather

What to expect of our Seasons

There's no such thing as the wrong weather in New Zealand, just the wrong clothes!
People are always asking us when the best time to visit to New Zealand is and what to expect when it comes to New Zealand weather. And we always say - there's never a bad time to be here! We have four very distinct seasons, from the cold winter months that are perfect for snowboarding and skiing in the Southern Alps, to the warm blossom-filled days of spring, the sunny, blue skies of summer and the clear days and stunning colours of Autumn. The summer and fall weather is perfect for cycle touring and hiking and other activities. Of course, we have some days of rain, but it only magnifies New Zealand's characteristics - throwing stunning waterfalls from high cliff faces, or creating a dramatic backdrop behind the mountains. The weather in New Zealand only enhances the experience. And we always say, there's no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes!

    Kauri

What an amazing introduction to the North Island. Every day was unique - starting with the hiking and boogie boarding on the sand dunes to seeing a kiwi released was exceptional. Walking through the rain forest and seeing the phenomenal kauri trees are memories we will treasure forever!

Chris Darcy review of Rimu Trip

The term trip of a lifetime gets used far too frequently. This was one. The South Island of New Zealand is likely the most beautiful place on earth, pound for pound. Nowhere else can you find so much beautiful landscape, diverse landscapes and microclimates packed into such a small area, which can be travelled in such a short amount of time while still doing it justice. Our guides, Holly and Claire, were fantastic - wonderful dispositions, knowledgeable, tireless and attentive - and made the trip special. And Kiwis are some of the nicest folks on earth (after Canadians of course) - we didn't have a single negative experience the whole time we were there. If you've been thinking of going to New Zealand don't wait - you can't do better than this trip - just make sure you take extra memory cards for your camera.

Rimu - Awesome South Island trip!

This trip is really a great way to experience the true beauty of the South Island. We hiked in beautiful areas with spectacular views, biked the Te Araroa track and sea kayaked in Milford Sound and in the Okarito Lagoon. Our guides, Ben and Emma, were absolutely great! They were cheerful, caring and attentive to our needs. They kept us well fed all along the trip even while hiking in remote areas with minimal cooking facilities. Accommodations were great and representative of the visited area. Thanks to one of our travel companions, we had magnificent weather for the trip duration… we cannot have asked for better temperatures.

    Incredible family trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our guides did an excellent job being understanding of the food allergies of my daughter

    Amazing!

What a great trip! The scenery exceeded our already-high expectations! And the guides were so good (plus the fact that we would like to see New Zealand in the winter), we are already thinking about our next trip with Active Adventures!
