Eglinton Valley

Eglinton Valley, New Zealand

eglinton valley

Follow the path of an ancient glacier through Fiordland National Park. The Eglinton Valley is a 30 minute drive north of Te Anau on the South Island of New Zealand that you'll pass on the way to Milford Sound. This valley is well known for 'The Avenue of the Disappearing Mountain' and its wonderful views.

The Eglinton valley is glaciated with steep sides and a flat floor. It's between 0.5 to 2 kilometers wide and has a shingle riverbed floor, which is constantly being changed by the Eglinton River. This is one of the few valleys in Fiordland to have road access. Since the Eglinton Valley is a long narrow valley with clear natural boundaries, a wide variety of flora and fauna, and a road running up the middle, it is an ideal location to explore and see the stunning surrounds from one of the only road-accessible valleys in Fiordland.

The Eglinton Valley is one of the few road-accessible valleys in Fiordland National Park.

    Memorable South Island NZ

This is one active trip with never a dull moment. We experienced real rain forest rain and snow capped mountains from afar and close up and personal. The contagious energy of the guides created a fun and physically challenging adventure.

    Wonderful Trip

A wonderful experience....Koru and Lauren were fantastic guides and showed us the best New Zealand has to offer. From Maori history to present day sights the tour was constantly informative and inspirational. Although it was "guided" they gave plenty of freedom to hike at your own pace, take in the sights without feeling rushed and allowed ample time to take in all NZ has to offer.

    Loved it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and felt we saw and experienced much of the island. Ben and Emma were exceptional guides: friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and hard working! We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with this trip and they went out of their way to make it even more special. The sites were amazing and to top it off we had outstanding weather.

    Great Guides, Beautiful Countryside

The trip was an exciting experience of New Zealand. The guides took very good care of us and helped with any of our needs and wishes. I am so pleased with the trip and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see beautiful scenery and take an active part in enjoying it. I would and may do it again .

    Exceeding expectations and more!

We had been planning this trip for about a year and I had been dreaming about this trip for about 7 years, therefore the expectations were high. Active Adventures did an excellent job and our guides Kuru and Liana made this a trip of a lifetime. The most amazing part is that they always were one step ahead of planning the next meal, hike, bike or even maneuvering around the NZ wild weather. All the planning ahead and adjusting on the fly would normally turn a trip to be very stressful but we were able to sit back and relax (not literally because it was very active) and truly enjoy the beautiful landscape and everything NZ had to offer. Truly the trip of a lifetime!
