The most popular adventure activities in Nepal

Whether you're looking for soft adventure or extreme sports, Nepal has a wide variety of adventures that will meet any vacation needs.

Nepal is nipping at the heels of New Zealand for the title of adventure capital of the world, with mountain biking, paragliding and bungy jumping (to name a few) growing in dominance by the day. The trekking trails are among the most spectacular on Earth and the trekking industry thrives throughout the Himalayas. If you’re only in Nepal for a short time, you’ll barely scratch the surface of possibilities, so we've picked out some of our favourite activities below to help you narrow it down.

If you still have questions or you just want to have a chat about your travel plans - give us a call, we love hearing about your adventures and we’ll try to answer any questions you may have. You can also jump onto our live chat or request a free brochure and we’ll send it straight out to you.

Hiking in the Himalayas

Nepal is home to 8 of the world’s 14 highest mountains, so it'll come as no surprise that it’s also home to some of the wildest and most beautiful rivers. Whether you're a rafting beginner or looking for a hard-core 10-day trip down the Ganges, you'll have no trouble meeting your needs. The blue glacier fed waters of this country are both gentle and challenging and the towering mountains surrounding them make for a great backdrop.

Mountain Biking

The fastest growing sport in Nepal is mountain biking - I guess for a region full of mountains that makes a bit of sense! The incredible thing is, no one really knows how many trails there are and how many are left to be discovered and whether you're riding a 10 year old cruiser or a brand new dual-suspension bike, you won't feel out of place. With both short tours and multi-day tours available, everyone has the opportunity to discover Nepal on two wheels.

Pokhara has all the right ingredients for perfect paragliding; incredible views, the safety of a big lake below and ideal take off and landing zones. It has been named as one of the top 5 spots in the world and if jumping off a mountain isn't quite enough for you, there's an optional extra of acrobatics on the decent. Our Annapurna Sanctuary Trek offers some free time in Pokhara and makes for the perfect opportunity to take to the skies and do something impulsive.

Mountain Flights

Trekking through the Himalayas is a life-changing experience, but it's not for everyone and we don't all have the time. Luckily, both fixed wing and helicopter flights are available in Nepal and you can even catch a flight over Mt Everest. It is worth noting that if you plan to travel domestically, the short flights are often quite remarkable in themselves. All of our Himalayan trips offer short internal flights that cover some impressive land below, so you can enjoy the best of both.

Bungy Jumping

Down here in New Zealand we know a thing or two about bungy jumping, after all, we started commercial bungy jumping back in 1986. So we like to think we can separate the good from the bad, and we think this is a goodie. Jumping with a backdrop of the Himalayas over a raging river below sounds like a great time, even if you're too scared to take in the views until afterwards.

Go on Safari

If we say safari, you say.... Nepal! Okay, so most people head to Africa for their safari adventures, but Nepal has some great trips. It is home to tigers, rhinoceros, elephants, crocodiles and heaps of bird-life with some fantastic conservation programmes in place. As with any trip that involves animals, beware - there are inhumane tours too and riding elephants is still popular in the region. Do your research and choose a reputable company.

If you're not keen on the somewhat unstable feeling of bungy jumping and paragliding, zip-lining could be for you! With an undeniable tickle in your tummy, it'll still get your adrenaline pumping from the safety of your harness. The zip-line in Nepal is one of the longest, steepest, tallest and fastest zip lines in the world, and the views aren't bad either! It is situated just outside of Pokhara and overlooks the mountains, so you'll have plenty to keep your mind busy.
